    BACKGROUND

    The work takes place in two places mainly at Department of Applied Chemistry and Microbiology, University of Helsinki http://www.mm.helsinki.fi/mmkem/index_english.htm, which is situated at Viikki campus area, a large and stimulating research cluster for biosciences. Viikki is within easy reach from Helsinki city center. And secondly at Center for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS) at the Technical University of Denmark, which represents one of the large bioinformatics and systems biology research groups in academia in Europe.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Study fungus associated archaea in boreal forest soils. Mass sequencing of I.1c group Crenarchaeota and Halobacterium like archaea from enrichment cultures. Genetic analysis and annotation. Stable isotope experiments on some metabolic functions.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD degree in the field of genetics or microbial ecology
    • Experience with molecular techniques and fluent English are essential.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in 454-sequencing, gene annotation, bioinformatics and/or in stable isotope techniques are an advantage.

    TERMS

    Full-time postdoctoral position for two years with the possibility of extending to four years. The position will start latest in autumn 2010.

    LOCALE

    The position will be placed in University of Helsinki. Part of the work will be carried out at Technical University of Denmark.
