    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The candidate will demonstrate extraordinary ability to seed, innovate, enhance, progress, and guide idea generation with relation to healthcare and genomic data mining, methodologies, bioinformatics, and application development. Candidate will be facile with gene expression analysis of Affymetrix data and familiar with analysis of DNA sequence data sets. He/she will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining clinical and/or bioinformatics applications and other software for M2Gen and its clients/collaborators. Candidate will have clinical data management and query capabilities/responsibilities. Candidate will show initiative in exploration and experimentation with new technologies. Candidate will apply project management techniques to track, update, and generate reports for ongoing projects and support actions.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Training/Experience:
    • Experience: Five or more years of experience developing software in at least one general purpose programming language (e.g., C/C++, Java, C#) and SQL mastery are required.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing and deploying applications on UNIX and Linux platforms
    • The candidate should have familiarity with public bioinformatics and genomic databases and tools such as Entrez, BLAST, the UCSC Genome Browser, or Ensembl.
    Position Competencies:
    • Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
    • Programming: Writes computer programs for various purposes
    • Clinical Data Management & Data Query: Writes SQL (and/or MDX) proficiently, assist with edit check creation/automation, and has acute clinical data reconciliation sensibilities
    • Regulatory Sensibilities: Maintains role-based security throughout all work with HIPAA-compliance
    • Mathematics: Familiarity with parametric and nonparametric statistical methods and their application to data mining and analytics of healthcare data
    • Business Analysis: Analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design
    • Troubleshooting: Determines the causes of operating errors and decides what to do about them
    • Deductive Reasoning: Applies logic, reasoning, and critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
    • Reading Comprehension: Discerns and understands scientific literature related to bioinformatics and genomics
    • Written Expression: Demonstrates disciplined skill toward written documentation
    • Oral Comprehension: Demonstrate expressive talent toward explanation of complex scientific concepts
    • Customer Service Orientation: Practices customer service principles and processes, including needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
    • Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in computer science, biology, bioinformatics, or a related field

    PREFERENCES

    • Exposure to at least one scripting language (e.g., Python or Ruby) or domain-specific language (e.g., S-Plus, R, Lex, YACC) beyond SQL is preferred.
    • Programming language certifications are strongly preferred.
    • Advanced medical training (i.e. RN, MD, PharmD, …) is highly desirable.
