    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Bioinformatics Research Center at UNC-Charlotte invites applications for two Research Associates in Bioinformatics. Research Specialists will work at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) at Kannapolis (http://www.ncresearchcampus.net).

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computer Science or a related field is preferred but candidates having a Masters degree with practical experience will be considered.
    • The successful candidate must be able to understand high-throughput biotechnology and biomedical workflows (both genomics and post-genomics) and model and manage the resulting data in modern relational database management systems (Oracle, MySQL or Postgres).
    • Thorough knowledge of a modern programming language (Java, C++, Python, etc.) is required.
    • A solid understanding of bioinformatics algorithms is essential.
    • The candidate must have outstanding communication skills and be able to talk knowledgeably with biologists, understand the source of data analysis issues and have some experience in solving them.

    PREFERENCES

    • Preference will be given to candidates with statistical analysis skills.
    • Experience in using Linux computer clusters is desirable as these are the principal tools with which the candidate will work.

    LOCALE

    Individual(s) accepted for these positions primarily will work in close collaboration with scientists at the NCRC, Kannapolis campus. The NCRC is a $1.5B, 350-acre biotechnology Research Park that is home to the research programs of private biotechnology companies, as well as those of seven NC research universities and several health care organizations.
