    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Department of Medicine; Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is seeking candidates for an Instructor of Research for a tenure-ineligible position to work within the Cardiovascular Research Center. The position will be a bioinformatics appointment to develop an analysis pipeline for epigenomic and transcriptome data generated on the Illumina high-throughput sequencing platform. The qualified candidate will develop statistical methods and implement them in a computational pipeline to identify significant DNA methylation changes in the human and mouse genomes. The candidate will also develop methods and software to mine the data including comparison to annotations, syntenic human/mouse comparisons, clustering, Gene Ontology/Pathway analysis, motif/sequence analysis and application of machine learning techniques to characterize combinatorial regulation of gene expression via methylation and other epigenetic factors.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Candidates must have a PhD in bioinformatics or related discipline such as computer science or statistics or other related fields with formal training in molecular biology concepts; candidates with a PhD in physics, mathematics or chemistry that have strong programming and statistical analysis experience as well as some knowledge of molecular biology are also encouraged to apply.
    • A Minimum of 2-3 years experience programming in Perl (or another scripting language), C/C++, and R (or Matlab) and formal training/understanding of statistics is required as well as a strong publication record and demonstrated scientific track record.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience with next generation sequencing, microarrays or other high-throughput biology and familiarity with epigenetic regulation of gene expression and analysis of related data is desirable.
