    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a Research Associate for the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center, you will be expected to work at the interface between atherosclerosis, DNA methylation, genomics and computational biology. You will participate in a collaborative environment whose goals are to better understand fundamental mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease, catalyzed by genome-wide discovery and bioinformatic analysis of DNA methylation events. You will work closely with a team of cardiovascular and computational biologists developing algorithms and analysis tools for the integrative analysis of datasets from high-throughput technological platforms, principally next-generation massively parallel sequencing methodologies. You will be responsible for developing appropriate assays, designing experiments and documenting results, as well as writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. You will be expected to write applications for postdoctoral fellowship grants from the American Heart Association or similar sources.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD or equivalent in a biological science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or related field with strong quantitative background
    • Together with significant experience in computer programming and computational biological applications, a strong background in statistics and related approaches is required.
    • Proficiency with Unix, scientific computing software (Matlab, R), and scripting languages (Perl or Python) is required.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience managing large-scale data sets and performing bioinformatics and sequence analysis is desired, as is the ability to quickly master new computational tools.
    • Excellent communication skills, personal initiative, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are also desired.
