    BACKGROUND

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Purpose of Role:
    • Work closely with biologists in various therapeutic areas to perform bioinformatic support for target research and biomarker and pathway discoveries using data sets generated from clinical and basic science laboratories in our key therapeutic areas.
    • Apply various statistical methods in areas of experimental design, raw data analysis and multivariate model development.
    • Work closely with local cheminformatic and research informatic specialists to enhance the information flow within the company.
    • Actively contribute to our global drug discovery project teams in Boston, Geneva and Darmstadt research centers by sharing practices and resources globally.
    Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
    • Provide daily bioinformatics support to the local research groups by evaluating and integrating contents in gene expression, sequencing, comparative genomes and other biological data
    • Develop software and tools for analysis, coupling pharmacologic response to genetic background, and integrating publicly and commercially available genomic data with in-house experimental data
    • Interact and collaborate with scientists from the therapeutic areas and biology and chemistry projects, by participating actively and proactively in project teams, and in one-to-one discussions with other scientists, and assist them with relevant bioinformatic tools
    • Set clear goals and objectives for each project and follow through on activities to ensure the achievement of results
    • Participate in global and local bioinformatic activities in evaluation of corporate data, and in sharing practices and resources
    • Suggest, develop and implement bioinformatic tools/scripts available to individual biologists
    • To suggest, develop and implement other bioinformatics tools/scripts that could enhance the scientific productivity of researchers
    • Present computational results and future plans to project team members and other scientists in oral and written forms
    • Provide individual and group trainings for biologists to use various bioinformatic tools, including web-based and desktop-based analytical and visualization software
    • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge through the participation in conferences, external collaborations, and by reading and critically evaluating relevant scientific literature and thus contribute to improving the overall bioinformatics expertise in the research organization

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education & Language:
    • PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, machine learning, biology, or physics
    • Fluency in English is mandatory
    Professional Skills & Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of experience working on multivariate biomarker model development and validation projects
    • Strong expertise in statistics applied to gene expression and proteomics datasets
    • Strong understanding of the application of statistics to biological problems
    • Extensive experiences in using Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, Metacore and R software
    Personal Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong team spirit and good interpersonal skills required to work on collaborative projects
    • Highly motivated, flexible and creative individual with a passion for drug discovery
    • Excellent communication skills, and ability to explain methods and results to biologists and other scientists. Capable of producing oral and written communications to international standards
    • Capable of working with autonomy and independently seek help from other scientists to solve problems and to learn new techniques
