    BACKGROUND

    The Lau lab studies gene regulation mechanisms by small RNAs and RNAi in animals. The Marr lab studies transcription and translation mechanisms linked to Insulin signaling and aging processes. The Biology Department is a top-tier, vibrant academic research environment with extensive facilities and seminar activities as well as opportunities in undergraduate teaching. Brandies University is located in Waltham, a suburb of Boston, MA.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Lau and Marr labs at Brandeis University are recruiting a joint postdoctoral position in Computational Biology of RNA-centric gene regulation. We are looking for a candidate with a PhD and prior bioinformatics experience, particularly in analysis of deep-sequencing and gene expression data. The position entails interfacing with molecular biologists in analyzing large datasets from small RNA, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, and polysome profiling libraries as well as other cutting edge techniques employing Illumina deep-sequencing technology. This position also offers ample opportunity for a computationalist to gain practical wet-lab experience in the expanding realms of molecular biology.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Candidates should have a PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
    • Programming skills and experience with high-throughput genomic data are highly desirable.
    • Excellent communications skills and the ability to work on a variety of projects are essential.

    TERMS

    The position start date is approximately July 1, 2010.

    Brandies University is located in Waltham, a suburb of Boston, MA. Brandeis University is in close proximity to other major research universities and medical schools as well as pharmaceutical and biotech hubs concentrated in the Boston area.

    SALARY & COMPENSATION

    Successful candidates will be offered competitive stipend/salary commensurate with number of years of postdoctoral experience and accomplishments. Benefits package will include health insurance, and travel support for one meeting each year.
