RESPONSIBILITIES
Dow AgroSciences (DAS) is seeking a Computational Biologist to assist in the design of experiments, integration and analyses of biological datasets. The successful candidate will join the Computational Biology group of the Mathematics, Information and Data Analyses Solutions function and will have as primary customer the Trait Product Development function of Dow AgroSciences R&D. Key job responsibilities will include development and application of computational biology, mathematical, and statistical algorithms and software to mine biological datasets.
Topics of interest include genomics, next generation sequence analyses, inferring accurate biological (metabolomic, proteomic and genetic) networks from large datasets, bioinformatics, proteomics, metabolomics, flux analysis, epigenetics, transcriptomics, information theory, dynamic Bayesian networks, ordinary differential equations, machine learning, support vector machines, instance-based algorithms, decision trees, simulation, and optimization.
Design of biological experiments, analysis, interpretation and presentation of results are also expected; as well as to act as a guide for the ongoing research process. The candidate will also be expected to identify and implement new quantitative methods that improve the integrity and efficiency of Dow AgroSciences product development cycle.
LOCALE
This position is located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, bioengineering, statistics, computer sciences, computational biology, bioinformatics or closely related field.
- Strong communication skills are essential along with an ability to collaborate effectively with both laboratory and field scientists.
PREFERENCES
- Demonstrated ability to write scientific papers is also desirable.
- A solid foundation in mathematics or statistics is preferred.
