    RESPONSIBILITIES

    My client is a well known lifesciences technology corporation based in upstate NY. This role will serve as a technical lead for data/text mining within a rapidly expanding corporate venture. The position will report to the Manager of Bioinformatics and will provide support to R&D pharmacologists and system biologists, in collaboration with bioinformatics scientists and development teams inside and outside of the organization.

    Relocation to Upstate NY (near Ithaca NY) is required (corporate relocation assistance is provided).

    This position will lead data/text mining efforts within the integrative pharmacology team. The incumbent will leverage public and commercially available information to grow and prioritize the bioinformatics capability of this new drug discovery platform and apply cutting-edge literature mining techniques to support mechanism of action detection.

    Specifically, in this role you will:
    • Establish data/text mining systems around drug targets, MOAs, biomarkers, biological pathways, and relevant therapeutic areas.
    • ID and evaluate public and/or commercial data/text mining databases and tools.
    • Manage the implementation of data/text mining systems and ensure integration with the system, lead requirement gathering and prioritization, design and develop data/text mining tools.
    • Provide data migration, data curation, annotation, and queries to system databases.
    • Work closely with pharmacologists and system biologists to gain knowledge on biomarkers and pathways.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Education: PhD in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Computer/Information Science strongly preferred. Relevant MS degree may be acceptable with highly specific experience.
    • Experience: Expert knowledge of Data / Text Mining methods and tools with 4-8 years of relevant experience and a proven track record in scientific database and tool development for drug discovery purposes
    • Strong database programming skills such as Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, and script programming in Perl or Python
    • Good knowledge of drug targets, biomarkers, and pathways in at last one or more therapeutic areas
    • Working Experience in a dynamic research environment in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries

    SALARY & COMPENSATION

    $85-100K base salary range; with additional potential bonuses and a world class corporate benefits program
