    BACKGROUND

    The CEBS database at NIEHS houses data of interest to environmental health scientists. CEBS is a public resource, and has received depositions of data from academic, industrial and governmental laboratories. CEBS is designed to display data in the context of biology and study design, and to permit data integration across studies for novel meta analysis.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Candidate will work in a close-knit team environment to work with biologists and gather requirements for the input of custom biological and toxicological data into CEBS.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Experience with data management, data QA/QC, and testing experience to ensure correct data representation in the output is required.
    • Candidate must be detail-oriented with a high degree of aptitude with information technology, able to work with web programmers and relational database professionals.
    • Basic familiarity with biology or toxicology terminology and data required, as is the ability to elicit data requirements for the input of custom biological and toxicological data into CEBS.
    • Bachelor's degree required, as is experience working in a team environment.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills necessary.
    • The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, a willingness to take on responsibility for satisfying clients’ needs, and curiosity about a broad range of bioinformatics, genomics, and public health topics.

    PREFERENCES

    • Desired skills include 1-2 years experience providing data analysis support to researchers in genomics, toxicology, environmental health, statistical genetics, or related disciplines.
    • Fluency in R, Perl, Python, Java, or other general programming languages would be a plus.
    • The successful candidate will have a willingness to take on responsibility for satisfying clients’ needs, and curiosity about a broad range of bioinformatics, genomics, and public health topics.
    • Some basic relational database experience is also desirable; experience with statistics is a plus.
    • Experience with Subversion, CVS, or other configuration management systems
