    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Life Technologies is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, Application Specialist, job code 2917BR. The scientist will be focusing on design, development and support of desktop and enterprise bioinformatics software for molecular biology, genomics and synthetic biology. The candidate will employ expertise in bioinformatics, data analysis, biological insight, and software engineering to helping us develop new softwares and to improve our existing product lines.

    Duties:
    • Use your areas of expertise to improve our existing software portfolio and develop new solutions.
    • Lead groups of scientists, software engineers and QA engineers in Singapore to manage and deliver projects.
    • Work closely with coworkers in the US and Europe on collaborative projects.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The ability to lead and manage projects, to help design, prototype, test, document, and communicate during projects to diverse audiences are important aspects of this role.

    The position requires a solid knowledge of strategies for combining bench science with bioinformatics tools.

    The ideal candidate should have experience in four of the following areas of research: bioinformatics, statistical analysis, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, systems biology, synthetic biology, semantic technologies.

    Skills:
    • Bioinformatic software application development experience
    • Leadership in bioinformatics team development
    • Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with a scripting language. Experience in working in a UNIX and Windows XP environment. Working knowledge of Java a plus. Experience in software development life cycle, object oriented technologies, relational databases, web technologies are advantageous.
    • Excellent communication and organization skills
    • Experience with two or more next generation sequencing platforms and the tools used to analyze next generation data
    • A Ph.D or Masters with 5-10 yrs of postdoctoral or work-experience is highly desired.

    LOCALE

    This scientist will be working in our Singapore office, interacting with other scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds both in Singapore and the United States and Europe.
