    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Life Technologies is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist, Application Specialist, job code 2918BR. This position will focus on design, development and support of bioinformatics software for molecular biology, genomics and synthetic biology. The candidate will employ expertise in bioinformatics, data analysis, biological insight, and software engineering.

    Duties:
    • Work closely with our scientists to identify and design new softwares to meet bioinformatics needs of desktop users, specifically around genomics, next gen sequencing technologies and synthetic biology.
    • Document, and guide our engineers to develop these tools.
    • Participate in validation and verification of such softwares.
    • Assist with the development of training plans & materials and assist in the development of technical documentation.
    • Participate in publishing novel bioinformatic results or applications.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The ability to communicate with customers, help lead and manage projects, design, test, document, and communicate results to diverse audiences are important aspects of this role.

    The position requires a solid knowledge of strategies for combining bench science with bioinformatics tools.

    The ideal candidate should have experience in 2 - 3 of the following areas of research: bioinformatics, statistical analysis, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, systems biology, synthetic biology, semantic technologies.

    Skills:
    • Bioinformatic software application development experience
    • Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with a scripting language. Experience in working in a UNIX and Windows XP environment. Working knowledge of Java or C# a plus. Experience in software development life cycle, object oriented technologies, relational databases, web technologies are advantageous.
    • Excellent communication and organization skills
    • A Ph.D or Masters with 2 - 5 yrs of postdoctoral or work-experience in highly desired.

    LOCALE

    This scientist will be working in our Singapore office, interacting with other scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds both in Singapore and the United States and Europe.
