This position, with Dow AgroSciences' Bioprocess R&D (BPRD) function in Indianapolis, will accelerate the development of data/information systems to support the business objectives of BPRD. Under the direction of the BPRD management, the Information Manager is responsible for leading the initiatives to implement the information management strategy and ensure the success of BPRD information related projects. Activities associated with these responsibilities are resource planning, process management, data/information management, and the supervision of associated personnel. Data and information security are also of primary focus. The incumbent will also represent BPRD in cross-R&D IM project prioritization and on the R&D Information Leadership Team. Incumbent advises BPRD management of Dow I/S data/information management policies, programs, strategy, and resource requirements.
The primary purpose of this job is to develop and employ a strategic plan to ensure long term BPRD information systems needs. Provide a cross-functional interface between BPRD management and the DOW I/S model to maximize the effectiveness of existing systems and to evaluate or develop new systems. Anticipate data and information needs and requirements of existing and emerging initiatives within BPRD and translate these needs into appropriate data/information management tools.
Examples of responsibilities expected from this role are as follows:
- Develop a BPRD IM strategy aligned to BPRD needs. Implement the IM strategy to identify and prioritize IM projects.
- Manage information/ data management projects including planning, executing, testing, and training.
- Lead BPRD Business Analyst, System Specialist and SME's in determining the evolution of existing systems and in ensuring their continued alignment with the BPRD business needs.
- Provide leadership and oversight for and suggest staffing to perform critical user operations and services for production systems critical to the management of research activities in BPRD. Critical user operations and services include responsibility for data administration, security, user support, and training.
- Work in a collaborative environment with other biotechnology specialists, interacting effectively internally and across teams to achieve project goals.
- Represent BPRD on cross-function R&D information management teams.
- Develop expertise in deploying Six Sigma methodology to drive process improvements.
