    BACKGROUND

    Lockheed Martin is seeking a Bioinformatics Software Developer who has a strong background in biology combined with an excellent track record of developing bioinformatics tools for a position at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). This candidate will work with a team of Subject Matter Experts (specializing in Biostatistics, Phylogenetics, Sequence Analysis, Structural Biology, and Systems Biology) and other bioinformatics software developers to develop cutting edge scientific tools for the Institute.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop Bioinformatics applications (web based or standalone) based on scientific problems defined by researchers.
    • Write scripts to streamline research processes.
    • Keep abreast of the frontier of Bioinformatics research, computational biology, and system implementation.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A track record of experimenting with new technologies
    • Demonstrated ability to track, update, and generate reports for ongoing projects and support actions
    • Ability to work independently, be detail-oriented and have excellent analytical skills
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
    Documented expertise in the following areas required:
    • Object-oriented programming: Java or C#
    • Scripting language: Perl or Python
    • Relational database development: SQL server
    • Web development and Web Service implementation
    • Excellent user-interface design skills
    Experience with or extensive knowledge of the following a plus:
    • High performance computing clusters
    • Mathematical analysis, modeling, and programming
    • Microsoft .Net Framework development
    • Ontologies and semantic web tools
    • Genomics, Proteomics, Systems Biology, Virology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or Physiology
    • Test-driven development
    • Familiarity with clinical data management
