RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are currently searching for the Head of Immunology Assay Unit to support the
National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with Lockheed Martin and it is on-site at National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD.

• The position requires an individual with experience developing and standardizing laboratory techniques to measure immune responses of animals and humans.
• The research scientist will introduce new equipment or new technologies to facilitate high-throughput assays.
• He/she will explore immunostimulants and strategies for activating innate immune responses to malarial antigens in order to enhance adaptive immune responses.
• The research scientist will characterize and compare cellular and humoral immune responses to specific malarial antigens in naïve U.S. subjects and in malaria-infected individuals in Africa, especially among vulnerable populations such as children and pregnant women.
• The research scientist will use the assay development knowledge described above to create novel techniques, formally validate and standardize these techniques, and create standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• The research scientist will then instruct and train staff on these SOPs. With support from the Quality Assurance Unit, the research scientist will ensure that documentation practices adhere closely to GLP and GCP standards, including responsibility for documentation management, deviation reporting and auditing. This will include training plans, instructional documents, forms, competency assessments, evaluations and certifications consistent with a GLP framework.
• The research scientist will assist the Program Manager with budgeting, forecasting and evaluation of the cost effectiveness of laboratory resources.
• The research scientist will also be responsible for laboratory safety, materials and study sample management.

REQUIREMENTS:

• The person who will successfully fill this position will have a deep interest in developing GLP standard immunology assays, ideally with several years experience in an industry setting.
• Successful candidate will require in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune responses and possible ways of increasing responses to vaccines; capacity of leading, inspiring, and supervising a group of talented technical staff for assay performance, development, and standardization.
• Hands-on experience with cellular assays is required.
• The Scientist will have experience in human clinical trials and GCP, GLP regulated environments. Familiarity with CLIA and CAAP clinical safety laboratories would be advantageous.
• Ideal candidate should have experience with project management in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The position will require substantial computer and software proficiency. Required Microsoft applications include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Visio, Project Manager, and SharePoint platforms.
• Experience in statistical analysis software such as SPSS, SAS, JMP, or other analysis and graphing programs is desired.
• Experience and competency managing LIMS would be advantageous.
