RESPONSIBILITIES
The Stowers Institute has an opening for a Scientific Programmer to assist the Bioinformatics Center in data management tasks. Responsibilities include analyzing protein sequence, structure and evolution; evaluating, recommending, acquiring, integrating, developing, and deploying various bioinformatics applications to retrieve, analyze, synthesize, and visualize genome sequencing data and providing end-user support in these tasks.REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirements include an M.S. in Physical or Biological Sciences, Computer Science or Mathematics
- Knowledge of at least one programming language (C/C++, Perl, Python, Ruby)
- Knowledge of protein sequence and structure databases, software, and approaches to analysis of protein sequence and structure
- Knowledge of methods for phylogenetic inference
- Knowledge of molecular graphics, visualization and three-dimensional modeling of macromolecules
- Five or more years of relevant experience, including user support in an academic setting, writing technical reports, and publishing peer-reviewed articles
- Candidates with a Ph.D. in the sciences are highly encouraged to apply.
PREFERENCES
- In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, the successful candidate will have experience in the analysis of proteome-scale data, Graphics Processing Unit programming, and Cluster computing (i.e. Sun Grid Engine).
