    BACKGROUND

    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. In an unprecedented effort to identify the genetic changes that give rise to some of the world's deadliest childhood cancers, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in collaboration with Washington University has launched the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Senior Software EngineerĀ  - Pediatric Genome Project (Job Number 18230).

    The Senior Software Engineer in the Computational Biology Department will be part of a team involved in analysis of the data generated from sequencing the genomes of more than 600 childhood cancer patients. The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for developing scientific visualization tools for the genome project. In addition, the Senior Software Engineer will participate and lead in evaluating, planning, designing, coding, validation, implementation and documentation of scientific analysis software that support genomic research with a focus on next-generation sequence analysis of the Department of Computational Biology.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer or physical science, or related field plus five (5) years of experience in software, visualization, web application and database development is required.
    • Master's degree preferred. One year of experience required with a Master's degree.
    • Must be able to develop software in the following programming languages used within the department: C, C++, Perl, SQL, and Java.
    • Must have prior experience in working with large data sets.

    PREFERENCES

    • Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and languages such as R is preferred.
    • Experience in a research or academic setting preferred.
