    BACKGROUND

    SAIC-Frederick, Inc., the operations and technical support currently has a Post Doc Fellow. The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC), part of the Information Systems Program, provides scientific computing, modeling, imaging, and bioinformatics support, engages in scientific consultation and collaboration, and offers training to NCI and NIH scientists and staff.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will perform genomic analyses using comparative and/or evolutionary genomics to identify potential correlations between genomic changes and cancer. Will examine the chromosomal distributions of polymorphisms and nucleic acid sequences that may promote chromosomal instability such as the formation of non-B DNA structures and statistically examine their distributions. They will also examine local DNA environments to determine if there is a functional correlation between a single nucleotide polymorphism and cancer, or determine if specific DNA sequences promote the formation of breakpoints, micro-inversions, or other genomic changes.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Doctorate degree from an accredited college/university in a discipline related to Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biostatistics or closely related scientific fields
    • Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.
    • The candidate must be able to acquire genomic information and develop programs/scripts to address various hypotheses.
    • A knowledge of statistics to establish significant metrics between observed genomic patterns and the presence or absence of cancer, and programming skills using R, Matlab, or some higher level programming or scripting language.
