    BACKGROUND

    The CRCHUQ Proteomics Platform is seeking an individual to implement, maintain and manage bioinformatics and systems administration resources for the Platform. The position will be ideal for an individual seeking to progressively develop a career in bioinformatics for proteomics.

    The CRCHUQ Proteomics Platform (http://proteomique.crchul.ulaval.ca/en/index.html) aims to make mass-spectrometry oriented proteomics accessible to the scientific community by means of fee-based analytical services and scientific collaborations. The Platform’s main objective is to offer top-quality protein analytical services with short turnaround time.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To design and implement a relational database and tools for data integration and presentation, including some Web based tools for data manipulation and analysis
    • To maintain in working order the Platform’s software, including the mass spectrometer control software, various protein identification software (Mascot, ProteinPilot, Scaffold), an in-house, Ruby-coded Laboratory Management Systems (LIMS), as well as the CRCHUQ Proteomics Platform website
    • To offer technical support (troubleshooting and user training) for the computers, servers, and software in use within the Platform
    • To maintain up to date the various the protein sequence databases used by the Platform
    • To improve the Platform’s LIMS

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A university-level degree in computational science or bioinformatics OR many years of experience in those fields

    PREFERENCES

    Ideally the candidate should:
    • Be knowledgeable and functional in Ruby, HTML, Java and Javascript (AJAX), and SQL (MySQL)
    • Be familiar with UML modelisation and design patterns concepts and possess advanced skills in MySQL databases creation and administration
    • Be proficient in common PC, server and network hardware as well as in Web and Server-client environments
    • Be knowledgeable and functional in Linux, Windows, and Mac OS
    • Though some degree of bilingualism (English and French) is not required, it will be considered an advantage as work environment is bilingual.

    TERMS

    The position is available for a one year term with the anticipation of renewal contingent on continued Platform funding.

    SALARY & COMPENSATION

    Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Four weeks of vacations per year and employee benefits (additional health coverage, retirement benefit plan, etc).

    The Research Centre of CHUQ is a component of the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Quebec (CHUQ), which serves the metropolitan region of Quebec City, Canada.
