BACKGROUND
YOU are highly motivated and committed to solve difficult problems and find effective solutions. You have analytical skills and ability to cope with challenges. You are a dynamic and passionate individual who creates a positive work environment. You are able to work in a highly dynamic and multicultural environment.RESPONSIBILITIES
You will join the Aerosol Science team within the Biological Systems Research Department, at Philip Morris Products S.A, Research & Development Centre, in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The aim of the group is to simulate aerosols generated from our products of the future, characterize them and understand the mechanisms which influence their deposition. The expectation would be to validate these simulations through experimental data.
You will have to generate/acquire knowledge and expertise in the field of airway deposition modeling, applying appropriate methodologies and through collaborations with internal and external sources.
The primary mission of the PMI Research & Development Centre is to research and develop a new generation of products which may have the potential to reduce the risks of smoking.
Specifically, you will:
- Develop mathematical and computational models of aerosol deposition and exposure using multiple approaches and leveraging PMI’s collaboration partners.
- Establish new and maintain existing relationships with universities and academic experts.
- Plan and manage external collaborations needed to implement numerical simulations, evaluate and summarize results, and facilitate knowledge transfer from external to internal partners.
- Coordinate projects and respond to changing priorities as required.
- Provide high level technical input to the projects & a sound technical methodology that leads to accelerated R&D efforts.
REQUIREMENTS
- You have completed your PhD in mechanical or chemical engineering, informatics, or a similar discipline with specialization in numerical simulations. You possess know-how in numerical methods for computational fluid dynamics such as finite-volume methods as well as experience with CFD codes.
- You have a good command on C/C++; any other programming language and experience in Matlab would be an advantage.
- Professional experience of three to five years in the tobacco, chemical pharmaceutical, or consumer product industry would be an asset
- Ability to think independently about modeling challenges, starting from the basic physics, making estimates of important effects, and identifying the most promising modeling approaches, given time and cost constraints
- Technical skills such as numerical modeling in the fields of mechanics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics are important, as well as demonstrated problem solving in areas, such as thermodynamics and materials science
- Interest in quickly learning new subjects and integrating knowledge
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Fluency in English is a must; spoken French and/or German would be an asset.
SALARY & COMPENSATION
We offer an excellent salary and benefits package as well as relocation allowance (where appropriate).
