BACKGROUND
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in the generation and exploitation of mouse and zebrafish genetic resources. The co-ordination and dissemination of mouse and zebrafish data to the international scientific community is a key component requiring high quality informatics support, and in particular, the development of novel tools and methods to annotate and interrogate vertebrate phenotype data.RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking to appoint an individual to provide internal and external leadership in this strategically important area and to manage the Institute’s mouse and zebrafish informatics activities to meet the needs of projects and the associated pipelines. The role holder will co-ordinate and collaborate with international consortia [IKMC, IMPC etc] and represent Sanger at scientific meetings. They will also plan and manage mouse and zebrafish informatics activities to meet agreed scientific priorities, including the allocation of resources and the continuous development and optimization of tools, methods and user interfaces. Reporting to the Institute’s Head of Informatics, they will interact closely with Sanger faculty and have line management responsibility for the mouse and zebrafish informatics teams [c. 16 FTEs].REQUIREMENTS
- The successful candidate will be PhD qualified with knowledge of mouse and/or zebrafish biology and have substantial experience in bioinformatics technology development and implementation.
- S/he will have a proven track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, have the personal qualities to build and sustain strong partnerships/relationships and have significant project, resource and staff management experience and expertise.
SALARY & COMPENSATION
We offer a competitive reward and benefits package with starting salary in the range £50 - 65k GBP dependent on experience.
