RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for providing assistance with bioinformatic analysis and programming support for "next generation sequencing (NGS)" aimed at enhancing translational research under the guidance and direction of supervisor. This will include carrying out very large-scale sequence data management and analysis procedures in close collaboration with faculty at UNMC and the state-of-the-art College of Information Sciences and Technology at the nearby Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI) affiliated with the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related quantitative/biomedical discipline
- General experience with the Linux/Gnu operating system and utilities.
- General experience with scripting or compiled programming languages (e.g., BASH shell scripting, Python, Perl, Ruby, Java, Mono)
PREFERENCES
- Prefer progress towards or completion of a relevant Master's degree.
- Scientific data analysis, data management, or related software development experience
- Experience working with NGS data, especially Illumina NGS data
- DNA and protein sequence alignment software (e.g., BLAST, MUMMER); scientific and statistical software (e.g., MATLAB, R); software for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data management, analysis, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS); Eclipse IDE; SGE, PBS or other batch job schedulers; Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and SQL programming; Message Passing Interface (MPI) programming; CUDA/OpenCL/GPU programming; use of the MapReduce/Hadoop framework
- The knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with and productive in any of a variety of programming languages and bioinformatic software applications in either conventional (data center), high-performance computing (HPC), or cloud computing environments
COMPENSATION
Salary: $37,200 - $55,800/annual
TERMS: Full-time
