BACKGROUND
The Zhao Bioinformatics Lab at The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc. (http://www.noble.org) is seeking a highly qualified candidate for Senior Research Associate/Research Scientist position under the recently awarded NSF grant (http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward.do?AwardNumber=0960897) to investigate how genome scale transcriptional regulatory networks control gene expression. The project, entitled “Systems Bioinformatics Approaches to Modeling and Deciphering Plant Transcriptional Regulatory Networks” will address diversity and complexity of gene regulation in plant systems and regulatory networks among key regulatory elements, including transcription factors, microRNAs (miRNAs), trans-acting small interfering RNAs (ta-siRNAs), and emergent regulatory elements.
With this award, The Zhao Bioinformatics Lab have three other immediate openings, including a Research Associate (#PB-S073-621: Bioinformatics/Scientific Programming), a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (#PB-S095-619: Computational biology/Bioinformatics), and an intern scholar (#PB-S270-618).
In addition, a Research Associate/Post-doc position (PB-S070-106) supported by base funding from the Noble Foundation is currently available.
Duration of current Funding: 3 yearsRESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Xuechun Zhao and assist in leading a team to develop systems bioinformatics approaches to decipher plant transcriptional regulatory networks; specific responsibilities include: 1) to develop graphical models to model and simulate plant transcriptional regulatory networks; 2) to develop novel computational algorithms to infer large-scale gene regulatory networks (GRNs) from high-throughput functional genomics data in model plants; 3) to construct Arabidopsis Gene Regulatory Networks (AGRN) and Legume Gene Regulatory Networks (LGRN), and 4) to develop integrated web systems to host AGRN and LGRN along with supportive genome-scale data, and network discovery, search and curation tools.REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. degree in quantitative sciences, engineering or related life sciences field
- Independent problem solving skills
- Have good communication skills, strong team-work spirit, and self-learning abilities
PREFERENCES
- Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Genomics, Plant Biology or highly-related field
- Familiar with gene regulatory networks, graphical models such as the dynamic Bayesian networks
- 3+ years of experience in Bioinformatics and Plant Genomics
- Programming skills with Java, C/C++, Perl, XML, and SQL using MySQL Server; and efficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems
- Experience in developing large-scale data analysis systems and scientific databases
- An established track record (as evidenced by publications in peer-viewed journals) in biological sequence and network analyses is a significant plus.
HOW TO APPLY
Applicants are requested to apply online by completing the application and submitting a current CV, contact information for three references (excluding relatives) who address your skills and abilities in science, and a cover letter explaining interest in the position and career goals. If applicant does not have the ability to upload the additional documents they can be faxed to (580) 224-6240 (please include position number), but the application should be completed and submitted online. Applications will be accepted until a candidate is hired. Interested applicants should apply immediately.
