RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process large volumes of genome sequencing data for incorporation into the internal genome assembly pipeline and primer design for gap closure
- Provide computational support for internal bioinformatics objectives as well as for ongoing customer-driven projects
- Participate in meetings for development of internal bioinformatics architecture, providing timely and effective feedback to the management team
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors or Masters level applicants with a background in computer science, bioinformatics, genomic sciences (or related fields) with 2-3 years of hands-on, related work experience are strongly encouraged to apply
- Familiarity with genome assembly software (e.g. Phred, Phrap, Consed, Arachne)
- Working knowledge of Sanger and next generation DNA sequencing technologies (e.g. 454, Illumina, Solexa) and assembly data processing, highly desirable
- Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g. bash, Perl, Python desirable)
- Working knowledge of major public domain biological databases and computational tools
- Excellent time-management and organization skills
- Must be a self-starter and team player with strong communication skills
- Candidates must be eligible for employment in the United States.
PREFERENCES
- Bachelors or Masters level
- Experience working in Microsoft Windows and Linux/UNIX environments, desirable
- Familiarity with microbial genomics and molecular biology techniques, a plus
