    BACKGROUND

    Sophic is an integrator of life science software and services. We license, implement and support Knowledge Management, Database Integration and Linguistic Software in government, academic organizations and biotech/pharmaceutical companies. Our software products are developed by Biomax AG, Munich Germany. Sophic is developing an Integrated Cancer Biomarker KnowledgeBase (ICBK), and implementing a wide range of Knowledge Management configurations in research centers and pharmaceutical companies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Sophic Associate Scientific Software Engineer (SSE). Use the flexible/agile Biomax development platform to configure scientific/biomedical solutions based on customer requirements. This position entails:
    • Data modeling to support knowledge management
    • Integrating heterogeneous databases
    • Writing programs to query external data sources
    • Linguistics analysis and text mining
    • Providing end-user and technical training for large scale configuration and implementation projects.
    The primary focus for the SSE will be to support the ICBK text/database mining, biomarker curation and database integration project. Additionally, SSEs will support a range of cancer and complex disease research and Knowledge Management configurations, training and implementation projects for academic/government organizations, biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Prefer a Ph.D. or MS in Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, Computer Science and/or Biotechnology from an accredited university. An undergraduate degree with 4+ years experience will be considered.
    • Should have 2-5 years experience as a Bioinformatics Software Professional.
    • Experience, proficiency and knowledge of systems design, data modeling, programming in Java, Perl, Bio- Perl, Python, XML, HTML, R, SAS, Web services APIs, Unix/Linux Environments, SQL, Oracle, Text/Data-mining and various NCICB tools, and other COTS systems
    • Strong problem solving and communication skills required.
    • Team player, positive can-do attitude with the ability to work in a diversified, dynamic environment and, when necessary, ability to work independently
    • H1-B or U.S. Citizenship required.

    PREFERENCES

    • Cancer research and/or cancer biomarker experience is a plus.
    • Experience working in a commercial software/pharma/biotech company is a plus.

    LOCALE

    Boston. Will consider Washington DC, New York/New Jersey or Philadelphia. Periodic travel is required.
