    BACKGROUND

    SAIC-Frederick, Inc., the operations and technical support contractor for the NCI-Frederick, has an exciting opportunity for Bioinformatics Managers (#180611 and #180618). The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center provides technology development, scientific consultation, collaboration and training, and high-performance computing support to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists and staff. The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC) is part of the Information Systems Program at SAIC-Frederick, Inc (SAIC-F). The ABCC provides technology development, scientific consultation, collaboration and training, and high performance computing support to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientist and staff.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for leading a team providing collaborative bioinformatics support to the NCI CCR scientific community including the analysis and interpretation of high throughput biomedical data such as multi-platform next-generation sequencing data, microarray data and proteomics/metabolomics data sources. Provide biological interpretation of analysis results including mutation impact assessment, expression analysis, prioritization of identified loci/gene lists and correlation with data derived from other sources/experimental approaches and derivation of common pathway/network information. Interact with investigators throughout entire experimental process from design to results interpretation and manuscript preparation. Manage staff of bioinformaticists providing similar types of assistance and promote community of shared resources. Coordinate and integrate derived applications and databases with existing efforts within the larger group including the Bethesda, Frederick, Rockville and Gaithersburg NCI campuses. Work with SAIC-F and NCI management to develop and execute developmental roadmap to accommodate new initiatives and technologies.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Possession of a Masters degree from an accredited college/university in a bioinformatics or a related field. Ph.D. degree preferred.
    • Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.
    • In addition to education requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in bioinformatics is required along with one (1) year prior supervisory experience.
    • The candidate must possess experience in sequence analysis, microarray analysis and experience with analysis of large genomic data sets including integration with data available from public sources.
    • Hands-on experience in processing and analyzing sequencing or expression and other array data including polymorphism discovery and impact assessment are also essential.
    • Proficiency in Unix (linux), scripting and programming languages and bioinformatics tools and databases is essential.
    • Experience working in a team-oriented environment and excellent communication skills are also required.
    • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
