    BACKGROUND

    The Tucson Marine Phage Lab (http://www.eebweb.arizona.edu/faculty/mbsulli/) at the University of Arizona offers a dynamic experimental research program in the globally important and technologically advanced research area of ocean viral and microbial meta-omics. We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated bioinformatician to enable TMPL researchers to maximally investigate unprecedentedly large-scale global ocean datasets, and to engage in informatics development.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate would work as part of our fast-growing informatics group that teams with experimentalists so as to push technical and informatic boundaries for an improved ability to elucidate ocean virus and ecosystem function across a diversity of global ocean environments. This is a cutting-edge team with extensive expertise – a great way to advance your computational skills and partner them with modern problems in biology.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Applicants must have either a BS in computer sciences or a BS in the sciences and 5+ years of computational experience.
    • Candidates should be proficient in MySQL, Perl and/or Python.

    PREFERENCES

    • Knowledge of statistics and R also a plus.

    TERMS

    The position is available as early as September 1, 2010 for a 1 year appointment, renewable for multiple years upon mutual consent.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary is competitive, and commensurate with experience.
