RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are currently looking to recruit a bioinformatics software developer in the US with a strong scientific background in life sciences and experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry. You will develop bioinformatics pipelines to automate the analysis of second-generation sequencing datasets. You will maintain a technical knowledge of emerging second-generation sequencing analysis methodologies, make judgments as to which of these should be incorporated into existing analysis pipelines and develop and integrate novel software algorithms.
REQUIREMENTS:
Educational:
- Advanced degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience is required.
- PhD degree with at least 2 years of postdoctoral or industry experience is preferred.
- Quickly understands the business issues and data challenges of client’s organization and industry.
- Works with scientists and teams of skilled bioinformaticians to identify business needs and recommends technical solutions
- Creates and integrates computer algorithms into existing NextGen DNA Sequencing data analysis pipelines
- Recommends software to analyze and integrate Next Generation sequencing data
- Integrates community-developed bioinformatics tools into existing data analysis pipelines
- Ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.
- Assists in enforcement of project deadlines and schedules
- Takes input from supervisor and appropriately and accurately applies comments/feedback
- Communicates and applies project standards
- Consistently delivers high-quality services to our clients
- Designs and develops in-house bioinformatics tools
Communication:
- Assists in the facilitation of team and client meetings
- Delivers informative, well-organized presentations
- Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
- High level of expertise in Unix, Oracle, Perl, and at least one compiled programming language (Java, C, C++)
- Familiarity with common methods of statistical analysis and a broad spectrum of bioinformatics tools (e.g., Major Genome Browsers, NCBI tools, EBI tools, Genome Center tools, Assembly software, Alignment software, Comparative >Analysis software, Next-gen applications software, Cloud based solutions, etc.)
- Experience with open source bioinformatics tools for sequence alignment, databases etc.
- Experience with whole genome analysis is a plus, as is knowledge of variant (SNP, indel, CNV, etc) detection and gene expression analysis.
- Detailed knowledge of genomics concepts from the molecular biology and genetics perspective is a strong plus.

This is a full-time, permanent position with Tessella. The selected candidate’s first assignment will be at a pharmaceutical company in the New Jersey area. Subsequently, the candidate will work with other pharmaceutical, biotech and life sciences industry clients.
COMPENSATION: $70,000 - $95,000
