    SUMMARY

    The University of Arizona School of Plant Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in bioinformatics. The Mosher laboratory is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to perform computer-based research on small RNA-directed DNA methylation in the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana and other plant species. The qualified applicant will design and implement programs for integration and analysis of high-throughput datasets, and will be working closely with research personnel in the laboratory. Expertise in programming, knowledge of statistics, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential. A sound understanding of molecular biology and prior experience with genomic analysis is highly desired.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design, implement, and maintain a database for high-throughput (e.g. Illumina) sequence data.
    • Integrate diverse datasets (including those produced in the Mosher laboratory) to answer fundamental biological questions.
    • Develop new analytical methods as appropriate.
    • Supervise graduate or undergraduate students.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in the field of Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline. A PhD in Life Science (e.g. Genetics or Molecular Biology) is acceptable with appropriate programming experience.
    • Experience and skill in computer programming including proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, Perl, Java, or R.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills and excellent organization
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

    PREFERENCES

    • A sound understanding of the fundamental aspects and experimental techniques of Molecular Biology is highly desirable.
    • Prior experience with next-generation sequencing data is beneficial.
    • A background in comparative genetic analysis and experience with plant genomes are preferred but not required.
