RESPONSIBILITIES
The Center for Infection and Immunity at the Mailman School of Public Health has an immediate opening for a Programmer/Analyst. The successful applicant will provide bioinformatics support for ongoing research in virus detection and discovery in a dynamic laboratory. This position is open to applicants who are interested in solving problems and working as part of an interdisciplinary team on cutting edge scientific research. The candidate will be expected to contribute to publications and communicate clearly with researchers on multiple projects.
Responsibilities include using novel data analysis software, maintaining a data sharing web portal, and maintenance of research databases. Applicants will use knowledge of Perl/BioPerl, MySQL and Ruby on Rails for writing applications for the web. The incumbent must have experience in the administration of Linux environments and be able to work in multiple operating systems (Mac-OS X, Windows, Linux). Will perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and at least three years of related experience.
- Requires degree(s) in bioinformatics, biotechnology and/or biological science and three years experience in computer support role.
- This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
- A good working knowledge of Perl/BioPerl, MySQL and administration of Linux servers
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving and programming for bioinformatics projects
