Opportunity: Statistical Genetic Analyst (#00217688) @ Vanderbilt University--Nashville, TN (US)

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Vanderbilt Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) is seeking a biostatistician to analyze extensive genetic data derived from multiple internal and external studies. Ideally this candidate will interact with investigators to determine and execute a data analysis plan for genetic data including genome wide association studies and next generation sequence data.
Duties:
- Contribution to clinical study design, protocols and study reports preparation.
- Work closely on a team of investigators, lab personnel, and informatics personnel.
- Prepare statistical analysis plans.
- Perform statistical analyses, including generation of genetic study data summaries and ad-hoc reports.
- Accurately estimate time lines and resources needed to meet objective.
- Participate in development and testing of novel statistical methods for genetic data.
- Work closely with research informatics scientists on development and testing of novel software encapsulating new statistical methods.
- Ensure completeness, correctness and integrity of analyses and datasets.
REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires a Masters degree in statistics or related field.
PREFERENCES
- Minimum 2 years experience providing data analysis support to researchers in genomics
- Experience with large data sets, such as those used in GWAS and large cohort studies
- Significant experience with statistical aspects of study design, including power calculations
- Ability to communicate statistical concepts and data analysis interpretations to non-statisticians
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated expertise in team-oriented environments
- Good problem solving skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated willingness to be hands-on and pro-active
- Proficiency in statistical programming environments such as SAS, R, or SPSS
- Able to multitask, work independently, and set own priorities, while maintaining accuracy and attention to details
- Able to work effectively with internal and external colleagues and collaborators
