BACKGROUND
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) is one of the world's leading institutes in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.RESPONSIBILITIES
The Ensembl group are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced developer to direct and coordinate the genome annotation activities of the Ensembl genebuild team. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring annotation is delivered to agreed deadlines and supplies world leading automatic genome annotation for the international biomedical and bioinformatics research communities. Additionally the team project leader will be involved in applying and developing the Ensembl gene build pipeline and creating new genebuilding approaches as required for each new genome that the team annotate. The postholder will play a key role in influencing the strategic direction of Ensembl as a whole in collaboration with other Ensembl project leaders and collaborators.REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent programming skills, including significant previous experience, and knowledge of more than one language
- Experience with relational database systems
- Previous relevant experience as a user of unix
- PhD or similar experience in biology, bioinformatics or related subject
- Extensive practical experience in bioinformatics
- Experience of batch queuing systems and large scale computing
- Extensive experience of genomic analysis
- Experience of modifying bioinformatics algorithms
- Excellent communication skills; Attention to detail
- The ability to deliver a quality product within fixed deadlines
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Prioritisation
- Delegation; Experience of working in a large team
- Supervision/teaching experience

Salary range from GBP 36772 dependent on experience. The Institute has excellent purpose built facilities on the Genome Campus, Hinxton on the outskirts of Cambridge.
