    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Senior Software Engineer (FileMaker) will work with Janelia researchers and operational staff (project managers, project scientists and computer scientists) and senior management of Scientific Computing Software to initiate discussion on the current utilization and access to data currently managed in FileMaker Pro systems to support the research goals of the Janelia Farm Research Campus. The candidate will be expected to develop effective interfaces to allow better integration of existing data with the larger computing infrastructure, provide support of other transactional database system (MySQL, Postgres or Oracle) and will also support and maintain existing FileMaker Pro based systems. In addition, the candidate will be expected to have experience with the use of configuration management/version control application (Subversion/CVS) and development/testing work in a non-production environment to prevent interruption of production resources.

    Responsible for maintaining standards of all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, from standards for capture and documentation of requirements to acceptable testing practices. The successful candidate will work closely with other groups in the Scientific Computing Department to design, architect, and maintain software/hardware architectures and frameworks that are robust, cost-effective and reliable.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • The ideal candidate should have at a minimum a BS in an engineering or scientific discipline and a minimum of 3 years' experience in FileMaker Pro software development.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and team resource and willingness to lend a hand with any project and provide an unparalleled level of customer service.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in working closely with scientists in a pure research environment is a plus.
