This position is with the NextGen Biocomputing Support Project. The main biocomputing/bioinformatics focus areas that will be addressed as part of this project include:
• Comparative sequence analysis of influenza genomes
• Molecular evolution analysis
• Analysis of deep sequencing (454) influenza genome data to include graph and cluster analysis (next generation viral sequencing)
• Analysis of third generation (Pacific Biosystems) native viral genome data
• Large scale text mining of literature to improve overall research efficiency
• Determination of antigenic variants related to structure for vaccine strain selection
• Research database design, development, implementation, and testing
• Assistance with administration of biocomputing servers, file storage systems, and HPC GPU cluster
Job responsibilities:
• Develop novel (and modify/improvise existing) data analysis pipeline, data visualization techniques for Next-Gen sequencing and phylogenetic analysis.
• Implement data flow for automated analysis of high-throughput data.
• Develop variety of software programs for bioinformatics and quantitative modeling of biological data.
• Write and maintain technical system documentation, with emphasis on programming problems and resolutions for future reference.
Job requirements (minimum):
• Experience developing bioinformatics software, mainly for NextGen sequencing analysis.
• Proficiency in Perl, CGI, C/C++, JAVA, Javascript, web programming, Matlab, R.
• Experience working in a UNIX or Linux environment.
• Experience with Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL databases.
• Follow a disciplined approach to programming and software quality assurance.
• Experience with setting up cron jobs to update bioinformatics databases.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic team of specialists; take challenging projects and deliver results within deadlines.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks/projects and communicate effectively.
Job requirements (preferred):
• Extensive programming experience with data analysis and visualization techniques for NextGen sequencing and phylogenetic datasets.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools like JBrowse, Bowtie, MrBayes, PhyML, etc.
• PhD degree in Computational Biology.

Bioinformatics or associated degree, programming proficiency in scripting languages (Perl, Python), R, C/C++, JAVA, Javascript, CGI, web programming.
