    RESPONSIBILITIES

SAIC-Frederick, Inc.'s recently established NCI-CCR Center for Advanced Preclinical Research (CAPR) is developing and utilizing integrated preclinical assessment approaches based on modern murine cancer models to guide effective diagnosis and treatment trials in cancer patients. The Scientist II will be part of a multidisciplinary team charged to discover and evaluate biomarkers indicative of disease initiation, progression and treatment responses to chemotherapeutic intervention in cancer models. The Scientist II will concentrate on high-throughput bioanalytical systems biology research including genome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome studies integrated with disease induction and treatment evaluation studies. Extensive expertise in modern bioinformatics applications with the ability to use and adapt cutting-edge technologies in biological assessment (statistical testing, data mining, classification and clustering algorithms) is essential.

The Scientist II will develop and optimize novel algorithms, tools and solutions for computational investigations of complex biological data and deliver robust analyses to other team members, as well as generating biologically meaningful and testable hypotheses. The successful candidate will participate in project planning across multiple CAPR initiatives, and therefore must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Possession of a Doctoral degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
    • Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.
    • In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of two (2) years of postgraduate experience performing independent, competent and innovative research in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related field is required.
    • Previous experience in whole genome and transcriptome analytical platforms is advantageous, and hands-on knowledge and experience with state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistics tools of integrated "multi-omics" analysis are required.
    • Extensive expertise in modern bioinformatics applications with the ability to use and adapt cutting-edge technologies in biological assessment and informatics analyses is essential.
    • In addition, the candidate must thrive in a team environment.
    • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in cancer and/or drug discovery research, and applying cancer pathway analysis to biomarker discovery is desirable.
    • Previous industrial experience in the cancer research field is also strong plus.
