    BACKGROUND

    Our Client, The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. Helping to lead the way towards important medical discoveries that improve people's health and save lives, NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases. Composed of 27 Institutes and Centers, the NIH provides leadership and financial support to researchers in every state and throughout the world.

    TAJ is supporting NIH fill their positions for over 10 years and has close to 90 full time employees onsite.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Multiple positions and open for Scientific Data Management Specialists to process, solicit, and provide assistance with data submissions for scientific data from epigenomic and/or genome sequencing and genotyping experiments into existing databases , analysis pipelines and associated data flows. Developing and improving the infrastructure supporting these systems.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required Skills for all positions:
    • Formal Education (minimum: Bachelor's in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, or computer science)
    • Scripting experience in PERL or related language
    • Experience with LINUX/UNIX
    • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and related applications
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • The candidate has experience moving large amounts of quantitative data reliably and efficiently
    Required Skills for some positions, desired for all positions:
    • Experience with SQL
    • Broad knowledge of biology, especially genetics, cell biology, and biochemistry
    • Knowledge of chip-based and sequencing-based high-throughput methodologies
    • Experience with sequence alignment programs (BLAST or related)

    PREFERENCES

    Since there are multiple positions open, the below is just a sampling of skills that are expected to be useful in these positions.
    • Formal Education (desired: Master's in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, or computer science)
    • Experience with XML/XSLT
    • Experience with array data, especially expression or genotyping data
    • Experience with C++ (or C)
    • Experience doing QA filtering of genotype data (HWE, non-Mendelian segregation)
    • Experience with the NCBI GEO, SRA, dbSNP, Trace, GenBank, or dbGaP databases
    • Experience with grid computing (LSF, SunGrid, etc.)
    • Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript and related web based tools
