RESPONSIBILITIES
Positions are available immediately for web developers / system administrators at the Center for Infection & Immunity, Columbia University (http://cii.columbia.edu). The candidate will be expected to develop and support existing softwares and applications that are critical to the success of the center. Primary responsibility of this position will be to extract results from analytical tools developed in-house, integrate this with sample metadata / annotations, and make the information available to researchers, via the web portal, in various ways --- creativity and attention to detail will be key.
Other major responsibilities include administration of the Linux servers and maintenance of research databases containing diverse experimental data. Applicants must be fluent in PERL (or scripting languages), have a strong knowledge of MySQL and familiarity with the Ruby on Rails application framework (understanding of molecular biology concepts/terminology is a plus).REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated ability to bring projects to completion independently
- The candidate should have at least 3 years experience successfully developing applications using a MVC web-based framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Catalyst, Java Struts).
- The candidate must have a strong knowledge of the Linux operating system and MySQL
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Project and time management skills
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and assignments
- Ability to stay abreast of technology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
