    RESPONSIBILITIES

    This individual will be responsible for strategy development and stewardship of present and future high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities. The successful candidate must have designed, built, managed, and/or maintained HPC systems of appreciable size in an industrial or government scientific setting. Candidates are encouraged to provide descriptions of architecture selections, challenges overcome, examples of performance optimization, and parallel codes used. He or she must have an appropriate scientific/technical background, with several years of experience working effectively with a wide range of scientific constituencies from a diverse computational research community. This individual's work will be focused on identifying and translating scientific requirements into technical requirements, thus delivering efficient computational systems through expert knowledge of current technological developments and directions within HPC. The successful candidate should be a motivated self-starter with excellent operations and user support skills. He or she will direct a specialized HPC team, and will report to the Dean of the Medical School.

    Duties:
    • Contribute to achieving HPC goals of the scientific computational constituency at Mount Sinai by delivering and maintaining efficient computational resources.
    • Identify emerging trends and opportunities to apply technology to further HPC goals of the scientific computational constituency.
    • Provide leadership and direction during the development and enhancement of HPC and network services, high performance software, operations, and user support and visualization.
    • Develop methodologies to assess HPC cluster performance and the identify problem areas.
    • Direct system administrators to set HPC computing architecture strategy, evaluate new technologies, and implement these new computing, storage and networking technologies.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • At least ten (10) years of expert level experience in the configuration, installation, administration, maintenance and repair of large computer, storage, and network systems in a scientific computing environment
    • Experience with a heterogenous set of computing platforms is a plus.
    • Knowledge of HPC centers' organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
    • Knowledge of specific programs and facilities available to users involved in computational research in Genetics and Genomics, Structural Biology, and Systems Biology is a plus.
    • Expertise in the deployment and management of batch queuing systems
    • Knowledge of current technological developments and directions within HPC
    • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments, employee development and performance management skills
    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

    COMPENSATION

    Salary is commensurate to rank.
