BACKGROUND
SRA International, a leading provider of bioinformatics services to the US Gov't, seeks a bioinformatics scientist to support our work for The Cancer Genome Atlas. http://tcga-data.nci.nih.govRESPONSIBILITIES
Will support Project Director, Tech Lead, and other Bioinformatics Scientists in the coordination of and reporting on a variety of working group meetings for The Cancer Genome Atlas Data Coordinating Center, tracking issues and questions. Will assist in communicating requirements and specifications to a software team from senior biologists, managing issues via a Jira ticketing system. Will also perform some functional testing of Web applications and assist in refinement of requirements with the senior bioinformatics scientists.REQUIREMENTS
- Required years of experience (min): 3-5
- Required Degree: Masters; Ph.D. strongly preferred in Biology, CS, Bioinformatics
- Required Basic Qualifications: IT experience to write software specifications and communicate with members of a software development team. Ability to use relational database (Oracle) and perform some scripting (Perl, Python, etc.)
- Ability to communicate with senior biologists to translate requirements
- Ability to manage issues (via a ticket system) submitted by the project team and end users
- Ability to track issues and questions from multiple components of The Cancer Genome Atlas at many distributed sites, and route information to appropriate people
- Ability to write and manage project reports and documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask well
- Some knowledge of HTML and troubleshooting desired, as is understanding of XML and complex scientific/bioinformatics issues in genomics and NextGen Sequencing
- Ability to use a Wiki
