    BACKGROUND:
The successful candidate will join the Bioinformatics Core of the Montana State University located in Bozeman MT. This person will be responsible for developing bioinformatics analysis tools as part of a team in support of data intensive biological research efforts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tool Development: Under the supervision of senior engineers and scientists, the successful candidate will develop and maintain analysis pipelines using the tools and systems available at the Bioinformatics Core. This includes installing software and writing wrapper scripts to invoke the software to process data; writing documentation for the end users of these pipelines; managing genomics-related data generated and maintained at the Bioinformatics Core, including: loading and querying data from database systems, writing scripts to transform the data to necessary formats, and downloading and transforming genomic data maintained in public data repositories.

Database Development: The successful candidate will participate in teams developing databases in support of data intensive biological applications, including resource maintenance, and formulation of software, databases, and scripts enabling facile storage, retrieval and dissemination of biological data.

Research: The successful candidate will perform preliminary analysis of genomic data and format for use by other analysts or scientists. In particular, he or she will provide analysis of large scale array-based data (genomics, transcriptomics, protemics) to support the Bioinformatics Core team, and write or contribute to the writing of technical reports and research articles. Depending on candidate's interest, he or she will also collaborate with experimental biologists and computational scientists to study systems biology datasets to discover genes, proteins or pathways differentiating experimental conditions, such as normal and diseased states; integrate and analyze data from genome sequencing projects, functional genomics analysis, and other school of medicine research projects; organize genomic data with other relevant data types into databases, displays, or graphic presentations for publication and web presentation; develop novel algorithms to analyze biological data.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • BS in computer science, bioinformatics or other closely related discipline
    • Proficient experience in database development (SQL or no-SQL)
    • Proficient experience in programming languages including Java, Python, R
    • Experience developing software in a Unix system-like environment (Linux, Mac OS X)
The Successful Candidate will be able to present technical description of tools to the end users, demonstrate ability to work effectively on multiple on-going projects, possess strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work independently with attention to detail.

Additional Requirements: In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
