The Senior Programmer Analyst - Operational Bioinformatics is responsible for working within the application development team to develop solutions that satisfy bioinformatics data requirements for the Scientific Services Department. Responsibilities include developing J2EE and Perl based systems for the validation, storage and analysis of genetic information.REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science; Engineering, Math or Business with an emphasis on Management Information Systems, or related technical field. However, upon evaluation, equivalent related experience and/or education may be substituted for degree requirement.
- Minimum Experience: Six (6) years technical work experience in a software development environment that required advanced Java programming language and UNIX-based platform experience in the area of bioinformatics. However, a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team-based environment
- 1 year of use cases and UML required
- Experience coordinating software development resources or teams
- Experience with relational databases and JDBC
PREFERENCES
- Advanced knowledge of the development life cycle including testing process and methods, variable programming fundamentals, conditional execution, data structures, compilation and debugging tools
- Biology background very useful. J2EE, Perl, Unix, XML, EJB 3.0 Persistence (Hibernate and equivalent), and Object Oriented Framework design, Web services and relation database technology or other preferred
- Proven organizational, analytical, and creative problem solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
