    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We seek a capable and enthusiastic computer programmer to join a team of three full-time bioinformaticians dedicated to the analysis of next-generation sequencing data. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and documenting computational pipelines to ensure maximal efficiency and reproducibility of next-generation DNA sequence analyses (re-sequencing, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, etc.) on a local Beowulf cluster.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Proven software development skills
    • Ability to program in a high-level scripting language (PERL, Python, Ruby, etc.)
    • Proven experience with UNIX-based operating systems
    • Proven experience with software documentation
    • Be self-motivated, hard working and able to work in a team
    • Have good organisational and communication skills
    • Be fluent in written and spoken English

    PREFERENCES

    • Background knowledge of genetics and/or genomics
    • Experience with bioinformatics or next-generation sequencing software
    • Experience with cluster-based job submission systems (SGE, LSF, etc.)
    • Experience with developing Linux packages
    • Experience with wiki-based documentation systems (e.g. Mediawiki)
    • Experience with a version control system

    TERMS

    This post is available from 1 April 2011 and tenable for up to 18 months in the first instance.

    Manchester, UK

    COMPENSATION

    Salary will be within the range GBP 29,099 - GBP 32,751 per annum, depending on experience.
