BACKGROUND
SRA International, a leading provider of bioinformatics services to the US Gov't, seeks a bioinformatics scientist to support our work for The Cancer Genome Atlas. http://tcga-data.nci.nih.govRESPONSIBILITIES
Will support Project Director, Tech Lead, and other Bioinformatics Scientists in data management, analysis of data problems, and the coordination of and reporting on a variety of working group meetings for The Cancer Genome Atlas Data Coordinating Center, tracking issues via a Jira ticketing system and handling questions. Will also write requirement specifications, in concert with the other bioinformatics scientists, and perform functional testing of Web applications. Will assist in communicating requirements to a software team from senior biologists.REQUIREMENTS
- Required years of experience (min): 3-5
- Required Degree: Masters; Ph.D. strongly preferred in Biology, CS, Bioinformatics
- Required Basic Qualifications: Ability to use UNIX, write scripts in Perl/Python/similar languages, and use SQL in an Oracle environment.
- Experience in communicating requirements and bug reports with members of a software development team.
- Ability to manage issues (via a ticket system) submitted by the project team and end users.
- Ability to track issues and questions from multiple components of The Cancer Genome Atlas at many distributed sites, and route information to appropriate people.
- Ability to communicate with senior biologists, leading meetings and teleconferences.
- Ability to write and manage project reports and documentation.
- Excellent written and clear verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask well.
- Knowledge of XML, XSDs, and XSLT desirable, as is:
- Knowledge of biostatistics.
- Ability to use a Wiki.
- Some knowledge of HTML and troubleshooting desired.
