RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director curates scientific reagents/data and facilitates the exchange and sharing of such resources within the Beta Cell Biology Consortium and associated activities. Develops data standards and guidelines; standardizes data; recommends mechanisms to aggregate and share data.
The Vanderbilt Center for Stem Cell Biology is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Coordinating Center of the Beta Cell Biology Consortium (BCBC), a major NIDDK-funded Team Science initiative, as an Assistant Director. The Coordinating Center supports a broad range of objectives directed at stimulating scientific interchange and progress in the area of pancreatic islet and beta cell biology. The recent renewal of the Special Appropriation for Type 1 Diabetes by the US Congress has provided us with both the necessary funding and mandate to expand and enrich many of our ongoing activities. The successful candidate will join a very capable and experienced team of professionals that currently perform a central role in guiding the BCBC, and work with us to enhance several of our current operations in order to meet specific objectives that we have agreed to perform in discussions with program staff of the NIDDK.
The position is best suited to individuals who have completed a Ph.D. degree, have fewer than 5 years of post-doctoral research experience, and have an interest in developing skills necessary for pursuing a career in research administration. The position involves working in a very dynamic environment that provides an opportunity for interactions with leading scientists, both in the US and abroad; involvement in long-range planning and priority-setting; and professional development through attendance at a variety of scientific meetings.REQUIREMENTS
- Doctorate (PhD or a D.Phil.) degree in the biomedical or bioinformatics sciences or in a closely related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in related field
- Knowledge of bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, and analysis of genome wide RNA expression and transcription factor binding datasets is expected, but does not need to comprehensive in all of these areas
- Knowledge of stem and/or developmental biology would be beneficial
- Communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interact in a productive way with Coordinating Center staff and BCBC Investigators, co-investigators and affiliates, are essential
- Must be able to demonstrate that they have effective writing and organizational skills.
TERMS
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). Travel to bi-annual meetings of the BCBC will be required.COMPENSATION
