BACKGROUND
The Core Genotyping Facility (CGF) in Gaithersburg, MD, is a fast-paced, high-throughput genotyping and sequencing facility dedicated to the support of genetic and epidemiologic studies for investigators at the National Cancer Institute. Incumbent will join the Bioinformatics Team at the CGF and will participate in large-scale sequencing projects including data management, sequence QC, alignment, coverage analysis, and variant identification.RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent will be expected to develop tools and operate software pipelines to manage sequencing analysis tasks and deliverables to meet project's needs, and to perform these assignments independently with input and guidance from the supervisor.
Progress on assignments will be reported on a regular basis and incumbent may be responsible for presenting data at meetings, conferences or other venues.REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a Bachelors degree in biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computer related field from an accredited college or university or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.
- In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of six (6) years of competent, innovative research in a related field is required.
- Experience managing complex programs or large production units is required.
- Must have extensive experience in human genetics.
- Must be able to perform analysis of genomic data relevant to large-scale sequencing.
- Experience in writing manuscripts and dissemination of data.
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
