    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Norwich University seeks to fill a research faculty position in bioinformatics. This individual will participate as a member of the Bioinformatics Core of the Vermont Genetics Network (VGN), and will provide bioinformatics support for the Outreach Program, a science education program for undergraduates in Vermont.

    The Outreach Program provides hands-on laboratory experiences through Proteomics, Microarray, and Bioinformatics modules to undergraduates throughout Vermont. This position represents an exciting opportunity to contribute substantially to the VGN Outreach Program. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in Outreach modules, help develop new material for the modules, and provide IT support for the Outreach program.

    In addition to the Outreach Program, the successful candidate will provide bioinformatics and IT support for research projects. This work may include design and implementation of data processing pipelines and analysis of massively parallel sequencing (MPS) data.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • MS or PhD in Bioinformatics or related field (rank commensurate with credentials)
    • Experience in applied bioinformatics in a research environment
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work with undergraduates
    • Ability to work independently and within a small team
    • Programming experience in a UNIX environment
    • Relational database development experience

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in analysis of massively parallel sequencing data
    • Experience developing automated workflows for MPS
    • Experience with high performance computing
    • Training in statistics
