    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The algorithms group in a large biotech company is seeking an intern to support development of statistical modeling software. The candidate will develop statistical modeling algorithms to improve basecalling accuracy by applying statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to incorporate additional system control information. The candidate will need to work closely to synthesize advice from experts from a variety of disciplines, and needs to be an effective communicator.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Must currently be a graduate student with a BS or MS degree in Computer Science or bioinformatics.
    • Course work in statistical modeling, machine learning and signal processing is preferred.
    • A basic understanding of the molecular biology of DNA and a willingness to quickly assimilate current techniques of sequencing would be helpful.
    • Three years of experience with Matlab is required, and experience with C++ is also preferred.
    • In addition to programming, the appointment will also require organizing, and annotating large volumes of data stored in a number of different formats.
    • Understanding basic image processing techniques such as image segmentation and noise reduction is also helpful.
