    BACKGROUND

    The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for the Carol Grotnes Belk Endowed Distinguished Professorship of Bioinformatics and Genomics. The Department seeks candidates who have outstanding research programs directed toward critical issues in 21st century biology using computational techniques, alone or in combination with experimental approaches. The primary appointment for this tenured position will be in the recently established Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics. The Department has the leadership role in bioinformatics for the North Carolina Research Campus, an emerging $1 billion biotechnology and research hub in nearby Kannapolis, N.C., in partnership with other UNC system research universities. These multiple partnerships provide extensive research support that includes state-of-the-art biology and high performance computing facilities. The position has a competitive salary, a generous startup package, and continuing funding from the endowment.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate, significant scholarship, and a history of funded research.
    • In addition, a candidate should have a demonstrated interest in fostering collaboration, a commitment to teaching and mentorship, and be eligible for appointment to the rank of professor.

    The Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics, located in the College of Computing and Informatics, is housed in the newly dedicated $35M Bioinformatics Building, has collaborative and interdisciplinary research programs in diverse areas such as structural bioinformatics, computational and systems biology, molecular biophysics, plant genomics, metagenomics, and human health.
