The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in delivering large scale DNA sequencing projects using the latest sequencing technologies. Due to the recent awarding of a grant for the UK10K project, we are seeking to recruit a new team member for the Vertebrate Resequencing Informatics team. This successful candidate will be primarily responsible for delivering regular releases of variant calls (SNPs, indel, and structural variants) as part of the UK10K primary processing pipeline. The role requires a keen attention to detail in order to provide high-quality variant calls with the expectation that the strategies employed will be constantly evolving as new methods/software become available. The role will involve working quite closely with the UK10K PIs in order to receive feedback on variant calls releases.REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD degree in biology or computer science (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrable significant experience in bioinformatics
- Evidence of proficiency in computer program design and implementation in a modern programming language (e.g. Perl, Java, C++, Python etc.)
- Experience with sequence based data
- A high level of communication skills to be able to elicit complex requirements from, and convey complex information to, groups with different levels of technical knowledge
- Ability to quickly adapt to new problems and ideas
- Excellent problem-solving skills
PREFERENCES
- Experience of object orientated development
- Experience with managing large volumes of data
- Experience with running software on a compute farm or cluster
- Experience with new sequencing technology data
TERMS
This position is fixed-term until 31st August 2013.COMPENSATION
