    BACKGROUND

    The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.

    The HAVANA team at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is looking to recruit a Senior/Computer Biologist.

    The HAVANA team is responsible primarily for the analysis and annotation of human, mouse and zebrafish genomic sequence. We maintain extensive internal and external collaborations with groups such as ENSEMBL, UCSC and NCBI. With support from other members of the GENCODE consortium, we are producing the reference gene annotation for the ENCODE project.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As part of the HAVANA team you will be involved in analysis and interpretation of human and vertebrate sequence data. This will include preparing and maintaining sequence annotation information for release on the VEGA and Ensembl genome browsers.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • You should have a proven experience in DNA, RNA or protein analysis, be highly organized and self-motivated.
    • Good communication skills and a keen eye for detail are essential.

    PREFERENCES

    • The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a biological subject or a strong research background in genomics.

    Salary range for Computer Biologist from GBP 21,115 per annum, for Senior Computer Biologist from GBP 27, 316 per annum dependent on experience.
